Q&A with Allison Veen: Account Coordinator, Softball Player, Lentil Lover

Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do outside of the Symmetri Office.

When you don’t see Allison hard at work in the Symmetri office, she can be found exploring the city of Chicago. Whether she is trying out a new place to eat, kayaking down the river, or simply taking in the sights while walking around town with friends Allison keeps herself busy getting to know her new home. She moved to Chicago from Grand Rapids, Michigan, just over a year ago and hasn’t looked back since. She has lived in Grand Rapids her whole life, but was drawn to new adventures in a larger city. Allison jokes that upon receiving a job offer at Symmetri, she quit her (at-the-time) current job within two hours. The rest is history.

What is your current role here? What do you want to be doing in the next couple years?

Allison works at Symmetri as an Account Coordinator, moving toward an Assistant Account Executive, and potentially higher positions down the road. At Calvin College she studied Strategic Communications and wants to continue to position herself as a strategist. This past year, Allison has grown very close to the Symmetri process and looks forward to using the next year to grow closer to her clients and push herself as a strategic thinker.

What makes Symmetri a special place to work?

When asked what she liked about working at Symmetri, Allison commented on her appreciation for the balance between hard work, passion and fun. She says that Symmetri employees take their jobs seriously, but are still able to enjoy what they do. There is a true spirit of camaraderie in the open desk area called “the bullpen” (where she sits), and it is fulfilling to be a part of such a dynamic team.

So… Sox or Cubs? Is there anything else you want to include about yourself?

Now time for the more serious stuff: Allison is a Sox fan and kitchen chemist; she enjoys playing softball and once wanted to go into broadcasting. Ask her about any of those areas next time you talk to her. You should get a good story or two. She will also probably want you to see this clip of her as a contestant for F4CE of 4 – she was in the top 20!
